The next concert in development is THE JAZZ SAGE.  It begins with the music of African-American slaves and the flowering of that music into spirituals, gospel, blues and jazz. The second half of the narrated program is made of jazz pieces from the Lotoro collection of music written in the concentration and internment camps of World War Two. The music of one group of captive people became the medium for others.

Jazz is a good barometer of freedom. In its beginnings, the United States spawned certain ideals of freedom and independence through which, eventually, jazz was evolved, and the music is so free, that many people say it is the only unhampered, unhindered expression of complete freedom yet produced in this country.
